ANARCHIST PROJECTS:

AGAINST PRISONS HERE AND THERE:

One part of the anarchist project is the abolition of the "prison industry". anarchists have always been prominent in the prison abolition movement. Here are two items, one from Ottawa, Ontario and the other from the other side of the world, Moscow. The Ottawa one first....

OTTAWA, CANADA.TALK: THE PRISON-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX AND THE JAIL IN OUR BACKYARD- MARCH 9:

A talk by a member of Books2Prisoners Ottawa -

Sunday, March 9 at 1:30 pm
Jack Purcell Community Centre; 320 Jack Purcell Lane; off Elgin near Gilmour
Pay What You Can
Wheelchair Accessible; Child -friendly

---- Entrepreneurs, lenders, investors, contractors, vendors, and service providers are acting like they've won the lottery! Why? Because soon there will be another prison or jail in our backyard, and capital stands to benefit. Sometimes discussed as the avant-garde of white supremacy in America, prison-industrial complex as a term refers to the growing overlap between capitalist enterprise and imprisonment as a control strategy of the criminal justice system. This talk examines what is known and what is not known about the prison-industrial complex in North America and elsewhere, as well as the social effects of the prison-industrial complex. We will then analyze the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre, discussing exactly what the role of jails and detention centres is in this intersection of incarceration and capital. We close with comments on prisoners' struggles and writings as integral to resisting injustices related to the prison-industrial complex.

-------------------------------------------------The Anarchist Discussion Group meets every second Sunday afternoon. We are local Ottawa activists and community members who share an anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist viewpoint. We are involved in diverse struggles and believe in the importance of maintaining a link between theory and practice. Discussions are based on readings, presentations or short films. If there are readings, they are optional and will be summarized at the beginning of the discussion. The Anarchist Discussion Group is affiliated with Common Cause Ottawa.

Proceedings of which will go to help political prisoners. If you have a song against prisons, their system, repressions and so on then you can send it to us in .wav format to the following address:abc.msc@gmail.com. Also we need a text and it's translation to Russian (or English) if the song is not in Russian. Besides we would be very grateful if you inform us about other performers who have the songs of the similar subject so that we could connect them if they can't read this message. Thanks for your support and solidarity! ---- Anarchist Black Cross of Moscow-crew ---- (source: http://www.avtonom.org/index.php?nid=1618)
