Check out The Insurrectionary People's Picture Show Theater blog to see this new effort a-borning. help him out with any suggestions you might have. All the best to Slim from Mollymew

ANARCHIST FILM/TV:
CHRISTIE BOOKS ANARCHIST FILM CHANNEL CLOSES UP SHOP:
It's a sad day. The Christie Books anarchist film channel has been forced to close up shop due to demands from their server provider. Here's the announcement.
...........................
Christie Books anarchist film site to close:
Brightcove (or film server provider) has just informed us that as of December 17 they will be closing their network account programme ‹ which is the service we are using ‹ and moving to a new platform, Brightcove 3. As the charge for transferring our film archive will be £26,000.00 and we have only received donations totalling £30.00 to the film archive since it launched last year, we are unlikely to be able to continue providing this service beyond December 17 this year. We are looking out for other servers and service providers so if anyone has any suggestions please let us know.
Meanwhile, there are 760 unusual and interesting feature films, documentaries, shorts, talks and some animations up there ‹ so if you haven't checked them all out yet you have just over a month to do so before they disappear.
Hasta la vista!

CHRISTIE BOOKS:
TWO NEWS FILMS AVAILABLE FROM CHRISTIE BOOKS/BRIGHTCOVE SITE:
The Christie Books Brightcove site has two new films available for downloading from their site. The site contains over 400 documentaries, shorts and feature films, all available for free downloading from their site. Two new items are:
'Z' by Costa Garves:
'Z' is a french language political thriller directed by Costa Garvas, with a screenplay by Garvas and Jorge Semprun, based on the novel of the same name by Vassilis Vassilikos. The film presents a thinly fictionalized account of the events surrounding the assassination of democratic Greek politician Gregoris Lambrakis in 1963. With its satirical view of Greek politics, its dark sense of humour and its chilling ending, the film captures the sense of outrage about the military dictatorship that ruled Greece at the time of its making.
'Privilege' (1967- Peter Watkins Feature)
After directing several extraordinary documentaries for the BBC, peter Watkins made his first dramatic feature with this flawed but striking film about Steven shorter (Paul Jones), a pop singer in a future society where entertainment is controlled by a totalitarian government. Shorter's music and image is used to channel the impulses of rebellious youth; in one concert sequence, the crowd watches him sing a plaintive plea for love and understanding while locked in a cage surrounded by police officers armed with clubs. While Shorter is remarkably popular he is also living a life created for him by the government, which Steven knows is a sham. When Shorter's handlers decide to revise his image into that of an obedient, religious boy he rebels, to his peril. Model Jean Shrimpton made her film debut here as an artist commissioned to paint a portrait of Shorter. Privilege later became something of a cult film. One of the film's admirers was rock poet Patti Smith who recorded one of 'Steven Shorter's' songs, 'Set me Free' on her 1978 album 'Easter'.

NEW FROM CHRISTIE BOOKS:
Christie Books, the online free film download site has just added three new titles to its list. They all relate to 'Operation Gladio' which was part of the "strategy of tension" of the CIA and Italian right wing forces back in the 60s and 70s. Dirty tricks abound. Part of this was the bombing of the Milan Piazza Fontana in 1969, carried out by neo-fascist groups at the behest of unnamed forces in the Italian state. It later led to the murder of the Italian anarchist Guiseppe Pinelli, a case immortalized by playwright Dario Fo in 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist'. Christie Books now has a trilogy available on the acts of the spooks of that day. They are:
Gladio 1:The Ringmasters
Gladio 2: The Puppeteers
Gladio 3:The Foot Soldiers
Drop on over to download and view these and the many other offerings available at Christie Books' Brightcove site. Help support their work.

NEW FROM CHRISTIE BOOKS TELEVISION CHANNEL:
The independent anarchist television producer, Christie Books, has announced the availability of a new film, 'Franco Leggio: An Anarchist of Ragusa'. Christie Books has a wide selection of anarchist and radical made or adapted for TV movies in its list, 213 at the latest count. Some recent uploads include 'Francisco Ferrer: A Life for Liberty', 'Life Roulette'(a modern Prince and the Pauper tale) and 'The Maquis in Catalonia' (about the anarchist resistance to the Franco dictatorship until the tyrant's death).

As a point of interest the title 'An Anarchist's Story' is a documentary on one of the unsung heroines of anarchist history, the Scotswoman Ethel MacDonald. This Scottish anarchist took part in the Spanish Revolution on the side of the anarchists of the CNT-FAI. Well worth looking at.

New Category and Anarchist Film:
I've created a new category of links on this board. It's called 'Anarchist Publishers and Distributers', and it presently contains 3 listings, Black Rose Books, Christie Books and Zabalaza Books. Some of the items in this category will be duplicated in other categories and some will be unique to this subsection. It depends on the layout of the original sites. More later as the category is expanded.
As to 'Anarchist Film' there is now a source for various anarchist films. These items can be accessed at either http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid234454000 or at http://www.tvhastings.org . This is a project of the 'Christie Books site mentioned above. If I can find other similar sites this will become a category in itself. Right now the site contains:
Choisy le Roi 1912
Red Years, Black Years
Delgada y Granado
El Grupo Primero de Mayo
Salvador Puig Antich
Vivir la Utopia
Buenaventura Durruti
20 November, 1936
The Will of a People
Porque Perdimos la Guerra
Queridissimos Verdugos
Nuestro Culpable
Nestor Makhno
Came de Fieras
Exiles 1
Exiles 2

Enjoy
