@@@@@@@@@@

1. "DARWIN"At the Images Festival

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 11 PM

Polish Combatants Hall,

206 Beverly at Cecil

TORONTO

We kick off this insanely productive month with a new movie! "Darwin" was produced for the most excellent Images Festival's "One Take Super 8" event, which means that I haven't even seen it yet - edited in camera, all 25 films get their first-ever run through a projector at this screening. Let's just say that mine involves giant Galapagos tortoises and unnatural sex acts. If that doesn't hook you I don't know what will.

Be there!

More details on this and other screenings available at http://www.imagesfestival.com/ .

2. TORONTO ANARCHIST ASSEMBLY

SATURDAY APRIL 10 - SUNDAY APRIL 11

Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil at Beverly

TORONTO

Spending a lot of time at this intersection this month! Here's your first chance to grab that choice Satan Macnuggit merch in 2010. I'll be tabling my highly coveted zines and DVDs, plus all kinds of goodies from the fine folks at Microcosm Publishing, from 10:30-3 on Saturday and from 10:30-5 on Sunday. There will also be a whole bunch of wicked workshops and fun stuff all weekend, including Friday which I'll miss. Everything you need to know is at http://torontoanarchistassembly.blogspot.com/ .

3. "REPRODUCTION PROHIBITED"

At In The Soil

SATURDAY APRIL 17 - 8 PM

On the wall of the former Russell Hotel (corner of St. Paul & James Sts)

ST. CATHARINES

Yet another premiere. "Reproduction Prohibited" is a collaboration between myself and composer Monica Clorey, constructed from hundreds of cut-and-paste manipulated frames from ancient phys ed film strips. Magnified, distorted and animated, these wrestling and swimming scenes morph into a perverse ballet in tandem with Monica's electro-acoustic score. This free outdoor screening is part of In The Soil - Niagara's Homegrown Arts Festival, which highlights a ton of local artists and musicians in events throughout the month. You can see thefull lineup at http://www.inthesoil.on.ca/ !

4, "JACOB TWO-TWO"

FRIDAY APRIL 23 - 9:30 PM

At Trash Palace - secret location!

TORONTO

This week marks the start of a brand new season at Toronto's Classiest Cinema, and my first contribution is yet another Canadian classic - a wondrously cheap, deliriously kinky adaptation of Mordecai Richler's legendary kids book about nice little boys being kidnapped and taken to a fantastic slave camp by a fish guy, a chicken lady, and a wimpy masked wrestler. It's really great. In addition to our ongoing "Captain America" serial (come this week for episode one!) I'll also be throwing in "Ramona's Bad Day", a 16mm print of the 80s TV show starring an impossibly tiny Sarah Polley! And yes, I am still clinging doggedly to the pretense that Trash Palace's address is a secret - tickets are available at Eyesore Cinema, 801 Queen St. West, and the address is printed thereon. The full rundown on our greatest season yet (and I'm serious) is at http://www.trashpalace.ca/ .

5. KAZOO ZINE FAIR

SATURDAY APRIL 24 - 11 AM - 3 PM

Ed Video,

40 Baker Street

GUELPH

Guelph's only zine fair is presented as part of the Kazoo! fest, a five-day orgy of music and art. We are promised "guest speakers, lots of zines, workshops, cupcakes, and hopefully some hula-hooping." Plus of course, Satan Macnuggit and Microcosm Publishing, courtesy of yours truly! The full monty for this wicked event is at http://www.kazookazoo.ca/

* * * * *
1. THE TRASH ON WHEELS FILM PARTY
Sept 10-26 - shows in Hamilton, St. Catharines, Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal and London!! (local info below)
Trash Palace - "Toronto's Classiest Cinema" - is proud to present THE TRASH ON WHEELS FILM PARTY – a back-to-school touring show of classroom films, cartoons and more from the files of Canada's most demented film fanatics!
Hosted by Trash Palace programmer Jonathan Culp, TRASH ON WHEELS brings a full evening of lost, forgotten and undiscovered gems from the celluloid dumpsters of our nation to your town. Armed with their trusty 16mm film projector, a trunkload of film reels from the 60s and 70s, cold drinks, and a fully stocked snack bar (including handmade vegan truffles from Boardwalk Chocolates!) Trash Palace will give you a taste of the madness that we've been dishing out at our home base for over two years.
With a constantly changing lineup of titles - partially selected by the audience via the "Trash Palace Applause-O-Meter" - every screening is a whole new ballgame. Will you see angry puppets smacking around their friends? Evil dancing cigarettes? Washed up pop stars ranting about LSD? Christian college students partying with the Virgin Mary? Animated sex ed lessons? Or masked headmasters wielding lawnmowers?
This is no stinkin' film festival - it's THE TRASH ON WHEELS FILM PARTY!
TRASH PALACE, named "the 11th best place to watch a film in Toronto" by Blog TO, shows shorts and features every Friday at their secret location. The Toronto Star writes, "It lives up to its seamy potential...the fun is pure, untainted by cynicism, high expectations or irony."
And the National Post observes,"Trash Palace's screenings promise the best in films that somebody out there was desperate to get rid of."

2. UNBELIEVABLE ARCHIVAL DVD!
GRIMSBY SECONDARY SCHOOL
1989 VIDEO YEARBOOK
20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Just in time for school kiddies - and even though anyone visible in this DVD has long since graduated (I hope!!), we can all recall the dread. And now, you can SEE it as well!
This hour-long video (available for the FIRST TIME on DVD) captures the student life of Grimsby, Ontario at a remote but resonant historical moment - the 1988-89 school year.
It's the first movie I ever made, and it's still watchable, funny, and highly evocative whether you were there or not!
In gritty, unpredictable fashion, this volume delivers the stuff of yearbooks past, present and future - sports, drama, music, familiar faces, telling personal details of every sort. And then it goes further:
YOUR yearbook never had a 'smoking up at the school dance' section. Or a questionable juxtaposition of pacifist Remembrance Day speech with various students beating each other up. Or a 'people saying inexplicable things' montage. There's a surprise around every corner folks.

But where the hell is 'Grimsby', and is it any more obscure than 'Balgonie'. The 'Saskatchewan Perfume' used to be named 'Evening in Balgonie', and you can guess what it smelled like.

3. JC QUILT AT NACO GALLERY
My friend Julian Calleros - he helped with the Spanish subtitles on the "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" DVD - just opened an amazing cafe and gallery called Naco, at 1665 Dundas Street West (a couple blocks West of Lansdowne). He will be hosting the first-ever public display of my enormous and onerous quilt project, 'SECURITY BLANKET' - an 11' x 5' archive of my old T-shirts, pattern shirts, patches, and buttons! Come check it out and grab a yummy espresso, empanada or quesadilla while you're there.
He's open from 8 am to 6pm.

Lastly, please send your good thoughts to Ed Fielding, Grilled Cheese Sandwich's "Principal Middleman", who is suffering from lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto. We're rooting for you, Ed.

NEW FROM THE ANARCHIST VOICES PROJECT:

There are some new great hits from the Anarchist Voices Project, an anarchist video website. Most good, though Molly has some serious doubts about the last item.
