CANADIAN ANARCHIST MOVEMENT/LOCAL EVENTS-WINNIPEG:
FUNDRAISER FOR ROBERTA KEESICK:
The case of Roberta Keesick, and her legal trials for asserting her aboriginal rights, has been mentioned before here at Molly's Blog. The Winnipeg Anarchist Black Cross will be holding a fundraising brunch to support her legal defence this coming May 3. Here`s the promo. Just in passing Molly would like to mention that this is the sort of thing that an Anarchist Black Cross should be doing. It makes our ABC more like the European versions of same and less like the American versions. Roberta is a person who is part of a genuine popular struggle, whether she shares the anarchist ideology or not. Furthermore her actions have been such that even people who cannot agree with her claims have to admire her for her courage and peaceful methods. But enough of that. On to the blurb.

Very positive turn of events that ABC is defending this courageous woman.

Outside of the anglosphere, and realistically outside of the USA, the question about who and what the Anarchist Black Cross should support has pretty well been settled, even if there are "minor blips" in other countries where some people feel obliged to support those who claim the anarchist name while engaging in terrorist actions.
Basically, however, the support offered is for those who are legitimate "class war prisoners", even if I hate to use such a term. It means that they are people whose goals are libertarian and whose methods are consistant with those goals. The term "libertarian", in my opinion, sghould also include those who do not share the anarchist label but who are enagaged in genuine popular struggles.
Even in the USA, where the cult of Maoist violence conflated with anarchism is the most virulent(outside of Greece) there are dozens upon dozens of such examples, far outnumbering the terrorist primitivists, and the Maoists who sign on to get extra canteen money in the joint who are the focus of the American ABC.
Anarchism has already become popular enough that it doesn't have to live off the illusions of terrorism. It can give support to real people engaged in real struggles such as Roberta Keesick without dirtying its hands with far more questionable cases.
