MEXICO:
STATE TERROR AND DIRTY WAR: A YEAR OF STATE RECUPERATION IN MEXICO:
Over at the LibCom.Org site there's a great new article on recent state repression in Mexico. this article is a good backgrounder on the efforts of the Mexican state to suppress peoples' movements in Oaxaca, Chiapas and the lesser known San Salvador Atenco, just outside of Mexico City. There is information on the recent stepping up of repressive efforts in Chiapas, the cancellation of part of the Zapatista national tour and its connection to the EPR, a Maoist armed struggle group that disappeared for over 10 years and has recently been resurrected as what may be a state sponsored "black-ops" action of provocation to justify further action against truly popular groups. There is also a lot on the Mexican state's actions against the popular movement in the state of Oaxaca and a realistic estimate of the present state of the APPO, the main opposition group in Oaxaca. But then there are the events is San Salvador Atenco in the Estado de Mexico, just outside of Mexico City. This relatively unknown struggle erupted in May of 2006 over a police attempt to evict market stallholders. The resistance was relatively unorganized, and hundreds of people were arrested , many of whom are still being detained. Since then the people in this town have organized themselves in the Frente del Pueblos en Defenso de la Tierra (FPDT), have made contact with other opposition groups in Mexico and are struggling to secure the release of those still held by the Mexican state.
All told a very good article that helps to understand what is happening in Mexico today. To read the full article go to the link HERE.
