ISRAEL:
ISRAELI RESTAURANT WORKERS STRIKE FOR UNION RIGHTS AT COFFEE BEAN:
Coffee Bean, originally a US based francise outfit now owns over 500 coffee shops in 15 countries worldwide. This upscale alternative to Starbucks has an outlet in Tel Aviv, where workers have been on strike since January 22nd. This struggle began over a year ago when workers at the shop began to press for improved working conditions. Since then union activists have been fired, and management has responded with even more harassment anbd intimidation despite the fact that 100% of the workers at the branch have expressed their membership in the union. Other Coffee Bean outlets in Israel have been the scene of solidarity demonstrations. The union is asking for an international email campign of support to pressure the Coffee Bean international headquarters to recognize the union and enter into real negotiations.
