USA:
DON'T LET NEW ERA LAY OFF 20 MORE WORKERS:
Last Spring, in response to glaring problems of low wages, racial discrimination and forces overtime workers at the New Era Cap plant in Mobile Alabama turned to Local 991 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to organize an union. New Era responded with a vicious ant-union campaign and fired 20 workers whom they suspected of being union sympathizers. As the dispute continues New Era has once more proven to be heartless by planning to lay off 35 more employees tomorrow, just before the Christmas season. Only 15 will be called back later. For the rest it will be permanent termination. To join the email campaign to protest this action go to http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/newera . The workers are also calling for you to phone the Global Vice-President of Human Resources, Chris Koch, at 1-716-604-9000 to lodge a protest. There is also an emergency holiday fund for the laid-off workers. To learn about how you can donate email Jim Gookins, Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 991 at gookins33@hotmail.com
