MORE FROM THE HARPER INDEX:
The Harper Index, the website devoted to following the machinations of our Conservative government and its leader is chock full of new articles about little Stevie's antics amongst the big boys at the G8. The first article of note is titled 'Africa- Does "shifting priorities mean moving aid money from Africa to Afghanistan'. this article reports on Harper's announcement about how Canada is planning to shift its aid priorities away from "the poorest of the poor", thereby reneging on previous Canadian promises. This is also a violation of previous Conservative pledges about the total amount of aid as per our GDP. to read more about this issue go to http://harperindex.ca/ViewArticle.cfm?Ref=0051 .
Another article is entitled 'Defence- questioning Harper's role as a go-between'. This article argues that the Harper government has done little about the "missile defence" issue other than echo US positions. To see more about this issue go to http://www.harperindex.ca/ViewArticle.cfm?Ref=0050 .
There's yet another article about how, after years of complaining about the "ideological bias" of Canadian courts, that Harper has not reformed the judiciary to a merit based system but has rather begun to stack it with his own political appointees, including some rather controversial appointments. See http://www.harperindex.ca/ViewArticle.cfm?Ref=0049
Finally there's an article titled 'Targets promote oil industry frame' that explains the difference between the usual idea of "carbon emission caps", and the idea promoted by the Harper government in its slavish adherence to the US line of "intensity based greenhouse gas targets" that aims to fix carbon emissions at a unit per production base rather than one of total emissions. See http://www.harperindex.ca/ViewArticle.cfm?Ref=0048 for more. An interesting article on what is rather an arcane subject.
