MOUVEMENT ANARCHISTE DU CANADA/CANADIAN ANARCHIST MOVEMENT- QUÉBEC:

DÉBAT SUR VIOLENCE/NON-VIOLENCE:
@@@@@@@@@@
/// Anarchist Tuesdays is a regular discussion group held every Tuesday at L'AgitéE in Québec City. Here`s this week`s subject.

13 avril: Le fameux débat violence vs non-violence

April 13: The famous debate violence vs. nonviolence

Whether it's anarchist Tuesdays organizational meetings for political demonstrations or on blogs that comment on the actions of social movements, sooner or later there always arises an uneasyness surrounding the issue of violence. This shows that the unresolved debate persists: the famous debate of "violence" vs. "non-violence". Often avoided or bypassed to limit withdrawals of solidarity, this debate is most often kept veiled and treated as insoluble. As a caricature one can imagine that among activists there are two camps who will never understand each other. On one side the Black Bloc and insurectionnists who do not hesitate to destroy or damage private property during or outside of events, to be seen to take on the cops or even advocate sabotage, bombings or political assassinations, claiming a distant or contemporary violent anarchist tradition . On the other, nonviolent activists use multiple tactics that can be legal or illegal given the political context (marches, petitions, leafleting, sit-ins, street theater ...) very much inspired by the social movements of the 60s and 70s. Not only is reality not so clear cut, but the redundant character of the issue in many collective discussions shows that it might perhaps be worthwhile taking about it other than planting oneself in a position and defending it.

That's what is proposed for this week's anarchist Tuesday. Inspired by a chapter of the book Anarchy Alive, a discussion will be moderated by the following questions: What is violence? What are the limits of the various definitions we can give? What criteria or arguments we can judge if the violence can be justified? What are the limits of these arguments? Can the experience of violence perhaps be liberating in itself or radicalizing? What to think of violence in the context of revolution or armed insurrection?

March 9 at the La Page Noire: Discussion about police brutality
The 14th international day against police brutality is fast approaching and with the traditional demonstration which accompanies this day a blaze of discussion around the topic. Although Montréal is the most burning issue, the Quebec police harass and brutalize equally. However, resistance remains anecdotal. Why is the topic is more important in Montréal than in Québec City? What form, what importance could a struggle against police brutality could take it in our town? Moreover, throughout the world we see "the hatred of cops" take its place in rebel movements, from Algeria to Oakland, California. Riots break out almost routinely whenever a cop is involved in the death of a young person. Come talk about police brutality and our relationship against the cops !

ANARCHIST DISCUSSION:
THE CAT'S MEOW AND OTHERS:
Here's another little ad for the ever scintillating Anarchist Black Cat discussion board, dedicated to raise the tone of anarchist online discussion. Presently happening over there on the news kiosk is a report from the Barcelona transit strike, spearheaded by the CGT, Spain's largest anarcho-syndicalist union confederation, along with the independent bus drivers' union ACTUB. This in opposition to both the communist dominated CCOO and the Socialist Party dominated Barcelona city government.
Also in the 'Central Station' section is a great resource discussion called 'Anarchist Feminist Literature and Projects', as well as another with the title 'Small Efforts to Contribute to Working Class Resistance'. Plus too much more to mention. Drop over to the ABC to see what it's all about.
In other news there's a new discussion board (new as in set up 2 days ago) for anarchosyndicalists, libertarian communists, left anarchists, etc.. Zip on over to Liberty, Equality, Fraternity to get in on the ground floor.
Finally, down Toronto way (you know TO, the pulsating centre of the universe) the local anarchist discussion group, the Toronto Bad Books Discussion Forum, now has an online addition to their regular physical meetings. Look it up if you'd like to have your say.The forum is hosted courtesy of the Linchpin/Common Ground anarchist organization in Ontario. The first meeting of the new group drew about 10 people, and they had a discussion on the nature of the state and, of course, the hoary old "what is to be done" question. The next discussion will revolve around Antonio Negri's concept of "Empire and Multitude", something that Molly wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole except to beat it to death with. But if you're interested....
