PHILADELPHIA SDS PLANS SOLIDARITY ACTION WITH G8 RESISTANCE IN HEILIGENDAMM:

The recreated SDS-Students for a Democratic Society (hopefully better than what its ancestor ended up as) has grown exponentially in the last little while as a (semi) organized way of coordinating the new student radicalism. The Philadelphia branch of SDS is planning a solidarity march on Friday, June 8th, in support of the people demonstrating against the G8 in Heiligendamm, Germany. They invite one and all to come and join them. For more details see the a-infos article on this demonstration.

SDS is also planning its second national convention to take place at Wayne State University in Detroit on July 27th to 31st. To see more information about this go to http://newsds.org/wiki/index.php?title=National_Convention

Philadelphia Newspaper Guild Asks for Solidarity:

This item is from the 'Friends of Nefac' list, forwarded by 'Miller Memorials' of the USA Workers' Solidarity Alliance.

Actions now being considered by the owners of the Philadelphia Daily News, Inquirer and Philly.com may put hundreds of Philadelphia union members of the Philadelphia Newspaper Guild out of their jobs. The rumour is that scab labour is being considered to replace the workers who will be "terminated". The Guild is asking for support letters at their email address voices@local-10.com . For further information on this go to http://www.phillyunions.com .
