There's a new benefit CD out, with proceeds going to the Moscow Anarchist Black Cross. Like most Anarchist Black Cross groups in Europe, and especially Eastern Europe, the Moscow ABC has more than enough on its plate without searching the prisons for Maoist bank robbers who have had a jailhouse conversion to anarchism. The state is more repressive there, and there are numerous instances of victimization of anarchists. In other words the Moscow ABC does great work. Support them if you can. MOSCOW POLICE ATTACK FILM SHOWING:

Russia: Weary of the naughty anarchists the Moscow police attacks black panthers!

Today, the 4th of May, there was supposed to be a movie screening of "Panther" by Mario Van Peebles (1995), a dramatization of the Black Panther Party of the 1960's , and a discussion following in the Jerry Rubin club of Moscow in Leninskiy Prospekt 62.

---- However around 6 PM the premises of the club were raided by UBOP (Administration on the Fight against Organised Crime), FSB and police officers. 25 people were arrested and taken to the nearest police station. UBOP claimed that it had reacted to a hint that a screening of a banned movie and planning of riots were supposed to take place in the club.

---- What makes Moscow police so afraid of a movement from other side of the globe, repressed almost 40 years ago? Apparently it was more that the people who they supposed were to see the movie were who they were after. This "payback" of the police may be explained as revenge due for a month long streak of actions against police brutality in Moscow, a reaction to brutal torture of youth in the Sokolniki police station on the 4th of April(http://www.avtonom.org/index.php?nid=1697). Thus far anarchists have organised a mini-riot in Slavyanskiy Square on April 11th(http://www.avtonom.org/index.php?nid=1701), an illegal March on Tverskaya Street on the 18th of April and many actions all around Russia and the world (http://www.avtonom.org/index.php?nid=1713). On the first of May in Moscow the anarchist bloc was the biggest since the 1920's, and there was also an anti-police picnic in Sokolniki (report still to be translated into English).

So there is little surprise that the Moscow pigs are pissed. Already on the 29th of April Moscow police announced that it had finished its internal investigation on events in the Sokolniki police station on the4th of April; that police tortured no-one and all the activists spreading lies will be sued. And here we go - dare to watch a movie of Black Panthers, and you land in a cop shop.

While writing this, most of the arrested have been released, but some of them were photographed and their fingerprints taken. But in any case you may give a phone call to the cop shop of Gagarinsky area (+7 (495)137-39-14).

In case you do not speak Russian just shout "PANTHER POWER!".

A MEETING AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY IN MOSCOW ENDS IN POLICE BRUTALITY:

The following news report is from Avtonom, a Russian anarchist news site. It has been slightly edited for English grammar.

Yesterday, the 11th of April there was a meeting in Slavyanskiy square in Moscow, exactly one week after some youths were brutally tortured in theSokolniy police station. The meeting was organised by a spontaneous initiative, but leaflets distributed linked to the website of the Anarchist Black Cross - ABC Moscow (www.avtonom.org/abc). The action was legal but ended up in chaos. It was well attended, up to 300 participants, but cops let only 200 inside riot fences, announcing that "organisers had requested a permission for merely 200 participators". Tensions were immediately raised, and demonstrators surrounded police who were controlling the entrance, shouting among other slogans "Follow your own laws!", as there is no legal pretext in Russia for police to limit entrance to demonstrations.

The police also did not liked a huge "Stop police brutality"-banner, and soon about a dozen OMON riot police attacked the people holding the banner,beating them with truncheons and electro-shockers(tasers-Molly).

What followed was a mini-riot during which some bottles landed on the heads of some police. Eventually 25 persons were arrested, as far as we know all of them were released today with misdemeanor charges, with an order to show up in court in Monday, and none of them was tortured in the police station. Although torture in Sokolniky police station was completely ignored in almost all the Russian media, apparently we managed to make so much noise that police made efforts to avoid torture yesterday.

COMMMEMORATING ALEKSEY KRYLOV IN MOSCOW:

As reported a few days ago here at Molly's Blog neo-Nazis in Moscow murdered a young man who was going to a punk concert in that city. here, from Avtonom, a Russian anarchist website, is the report of the commemoration of his death that was held yesterday in Moscow. Commemorating Aleksey Krylov in Moscow

19th of March,

3 days after the murder of Aleksey Krylov on his way to a concert of Petrozhavodsk oi!-band Nichego Horoshego, anti-fascists of Moscow gathered to commemorate him. ---- Around 6 PM people began to gather at the murder place, Maroseyka street 4. They lit candles and laid fl lowers. Someone made graffiti "We will remember Kryl forever! Murdered by Nazis 16th of March 2008!". People had banner "Fascism won't trespass". All together there were some 50 people,and they gathered for half an hour but the police did not show up to disperse the illegal gathering. ---- As the original gathering place of Pushkinskaya square was leaked to the open internet 7 vans of police and small groups of Nazis were spotted there. It was decided that the action should be moved to another spot.

Marchers gathered in the Kropotkinskaya(Yes, there is a Metro Station in Moscow named after Kropotkin-Molly) Metro station, where the march started moving clockwise to the Gogol Boulevard. It was obvious that this was the biggest ever reaction against a concrete case of fascist violence in Moscow - more than 250 demonstrators joined, in a spectacular unity -there were punks, lgbt(?-Molly),anarchists, hardcore kids, skinheads and just anti-fascists. Maybe this does not seem a lot in a city of 10 million, but it hard to organise in a conspiratorial manner in the condition of a total ban of such demonstrations - it would have been impossible even to legalize a picket or a candlelight vigil in such a short timescale .

The marchers carried banners "Fascism is murdering, authorities are covering!" and "Your ignorance is our death!". A number of sea torches were lit. People scanned("screamed" I guess-Molly) "Get to the streets - reclaim the city!","Fascism won't trespass!", "We do not care about color of skin - we refuse fascism!", "Antifa!", "Alerta, alerta, antifascista!", "Our fatherland is all humanity!", "As long as we are united, we will never be divided!" and other slogans.

The march turned to the old Arbat, and finished at Smolenskaya Metro station.The police failed to make any arrests.

RUSSIAN ANARCHISTS REPORT ON GAY PRIDE MARCH IN MOSCOW:
The Russian anarchist site Avtonom reports on this year's Gay pride marches in Moscow. The report they give can make depressing news, but it has the virtue of being utterly truthful. It also points out many things not reported in the general press whose reportage of the event was pretty well confined to spectacular word pictures of neo-fascists attacking participants in the main march, held on Saturday, May 26th. The comrades from Avtonom (autonomous action) were disappointed with a poor turnout for their own event staged separately, the day before the NGO sponsored march. The difficulties of actually holding a protest in today's Russia are explained. The report goes into more about the political divisions of the sponsors of the main march, including the very controversial sponsorship of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, an ultranationalist and almost fascist party that only supports gay rights because of the orientation of many of its members.
