What would probably be the WORST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS is a repetition of the China case where government Stalinism is combined with gangster capitalism in the economy. To a great extent Cuba is already well down that road. Let the heirs of Castro stay in power long enough to start collecting royalties from offshore oil and THIS may tbe result for decades. Lots of commies will get rich in the process, but the average Cuban will become even poorer than they are today- which is saying a lot.mollymewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10608757779720671118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32250954.post-27336021516352775312008-05-20T22:44:00.000-07:002008-05-20T22:44:00.000-07:00Given the fact that there are few anarchists in Cu...Given the fact that there are few anarchists in Cuba today, the most promising evolution would be one in the direction of the left populism/revitalized social democracy you see in much of Latin America. A soft landing in other words. (And a situation that would allow the Cuban anarchist movement to re-form.) Is this possible or will Cuba fall from the frying pan of Stalinism into the fire of naked corporatism and gangsterism? Two things point in another direction. The first is that Cubans are well aware of what happened in Russia when gangster capitalism was introduced at the behest of the Gringos, and I am certain they don't want that. Nor do they wish to see the return of the Miami Mafia and Batista types. The second point is the existence of all those friendly left-wing Latin American states who may be able to help and inspire a transition to a democratic yet social system of some kind. But, really who knows?Larry Gambonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04965037776214596919noreply@blogger.com
