It's so unfair as a child or female , or animal to have to live in this environment..angry survivor of this type of religionAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32250954.post-1157425236158759242006-09-04T20:00:00.000-07:002006-09-04T20:00:00.000-07:00I actually had no clue about the economic beliefs ...I actually had no clue about the economic beliefs of the Amish. I never grew up amongst them in Saskatchewan like the Hutterites and Doukhobours, and, as I said, this is their first colony here in Manitoba.
The Doukhobours are the best known in a Canada-wide sense because they have had a rather colourful history in BC. They originally landed in Canada via the efforts of Leo Tolstoy and Peter Kropotkin, along with Kropotkin's friend, the Canadian James Morton.
Here in Manitoba there are more Mennonites than you can shake a stick at, and they have no communalist economic philosophy.
I found it very interesting to look this matter up. Wikipedia links it extensively with "Christian anarchism".mollymewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10608757779720671118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32250954.post-1157385326614905772006-09-04T08:55:00.000-07:002006-09-04T08:55:00.000-07:00That's probably right. The Dutch word for "German" is "Duits".
I have met a few ex-Hutterites, including one who fully joined the modern world in terms of going to University, etc.. The suffering that man had to undergo outclassed almost everything I have seen with ex-Catholics. It is as Legionaires Disease is to a mild cold.
The Hutterites are a rather interesting group. Many people are under the delusion that they are inveterate thieves, though in my mind that is doubtful. It just that the way that they act resembles the actions of a sociopath in that they carry the halo of assumed superiority around with them in their travels. People assume this is something that they are more familiar with and put the tag "thief" to it.
What is certain is that they love to haggle and waste time. The common story is that they can walk into a hardware store and try to bargain over the price of a penny nail for 3 hours. Then they walk out without buying anything.
The story of Hutterite drivers is also another matter for a different time.mollymewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10608757779720671118noreply@blogger.com
